Setup for a new lab Mac. Work through the steps in order.

1. Update macOS

Update your macOS version to the latest UW-approved distribution.

2. Enroll a UW-owned Mac

If the Mac is UW-owned, follow these instructions to install WorkSpace One Intelligent Hub if SVM IT has not already set this up. This will allow you to directly install the following UW-licensed software:

• Adobe products
• Global Protect (UW VPN)
• Microsoft products
• Zoom

3. Install core lab software

• Box Drive — cloud-based shared file storage
• Slack — primary lab communication tool
• Notion — primary project management and docs tool
• Sublime Text — lightweight text editor
• iTerm — feature-rich terminal replacement
• Paperpile — reference management (requires lab license key)
• VS Code — IDE for code writing and editing
• Globus Connect Personal — for fast file transfers
• Cyberduck — SFTP client
• Fiji — primary software used for image analysis
